School District 69 is championing a vision dedicated to community mobilization in the area of preschool literacy. Coordination of this
project is provided by the Community Literacy Liaison position that was created and funded by SD 69 - confirming a strong commitment
towards early intervention and prevention. Building Learning Together Steering Committee, formed in 1999, is now a working partnership
of community agencies, non-profit groups, parents, First Nations and government representatives who came together to share resources,
ideas and expertise. These unique partnerships support a common goal: "To enhance children's development (pre-birth - 6 years) by
supporting strong family relationships and community capacity through effective learning opportunities."
Oceanside Community can proudly acknowledge the 18 preschool literacy initiatives currently underway including 13 Mother Goose and Friends
sites, Words on Wheels Outreach Bus, Hug-a-book, Traveling Tales, BLT Backpacks, Circle of Friends Conference, Top Cop, Roots of Empathy,
